Russia approves use of GM crops, first yields in 2016-17

The Russian authorities have approved the use of genetically modified (GM) crops as of 1 July 2014. The registration process for GM seeds may take more than one year, with the first crop of GM soybeans expected to be harvested in 2016â€“17. Several agencies will be responsible for the registration process, including the Ministry of Health (Moscow), which will take care of seeds used to produce drugs; and Roszdravnadzor, which will have responsibility for crops with medical applications.
