Rennovia unveils renewable HMD route

Rennovia (Menlo Park, CA) has announced that hexamethylenediamine (HMD) will be its second commercial target, having demonstrated a chemocatalytic process to produce HMD from renewable feedstocks. In conjunction with Rennovia’s renewable adipic acid process technology—first announced in 2010—the company says a 100% biobased route to nylon-6,6 monomers is available for the first time. Production costs for Rennovia’s biobased HMD are projected to be 20–25% below that of conventional petroleum-based HMD, with a significantly lower per-pound capital cost...
