Monsanto says it has been awarded $1 billion in damages in a patent dispute with DuPont over the stacking of Monsanto’s prolific Roundup Ready (RR) herbicide-tolerance trait in DuPont’s Optimum GAT (OGAT) seeds. Monsanto originally filed suit against DuPont and DuPont Pioneer in May 2009. DuPont claimed its use of RR was within its rights under a 2002 royalty-bearing license agreement. Monsanto, however, says that license included restrictions on stacking RR with another trait for glyphosate tolerance, and that DuPont...
