Life sciences lift Bayer’s first-quarter results

Bayer reports a “positive development” in its life sciences operations, comprising the Bayer HealthCare and CropScience subgroups, in the first quarter but says that Bayer MaterialScience’s results were hampered by raw material costs. The company, meanwhile, confirms its outlook for the rest of 2013. Bayer’s first-quarter net income rose 11.5%, to €1.16 billion ($1.51 billion), and core earnings per share advanced 1.8%, to €1.70.
