Hayward Becomes BP CEO Early

Tony Hayward has been appointed CEO of BP with immediate effect. Hayward succeeds John Browne three months earlier than scheduled, following Browne’s resignation last week after admitting he had lied to a U.K. court. Browne had been seeking a court injunction to prevent a U.K. tabloid from printing details of his former relationship with a man, and publishing allegations of improper business conduct during that period.
