Hayward succeeds John Browne three months earlier than scheduled, following Browne’s resignation last week after admitting he had lied to a U.K. court. Browne had been seeking a court injunction to prevent a U.K. tabloid from printing details of his former relationship with a man, and publishing allegations of improper business conduct during that period.
