EU output falls 2.8% in March, 2.1% in first quarter

Chemical production shrank 2.8% in the European Union in March compared with the same month last year and fell by 2.1% in the first quarter of 2013 versus the year-ago quarter, according to Ceficâ€™s latest Chemicals Trends Report. The main drag on output was basic inorganics, which declined 6.1% in March compared with a year ago. Output of petrochemicals was down by 3.4%, and production of polymers and consumer chemicals decreased by 1.6% and 1.0%, respectively, on a year-on-year (YOY) basis.
