Chemical Week Magazine :: Newsbriefs ENI to Close Gela Ethylene Plant10:23 AM MDT | July 25, 2007 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff ENI (Rome) says that its Polimeri Europa subsidiary will permanently close its steam cracker at Gela, Italy. The closure forms part of a plan to upgrade ENI’s refinery at the same site, and will affect about 400 jobs, 33% of the site’s workforce. The upgrade will take place over the next three years, ENI says. The company says that the Gela cracker, with capacity for 250,000 m.t./year of ethylene, is small and uncompetitive, and uses outdated technology.
