Chemical Week Magazine :: Newsbriefs Dow JV Breaks Ground on Olefins Unit9:28 AM MDT | April 8, 2008 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff SCG Chemicals (Bangkok) and Dow Chemical have broken ground on a previously announced joint venture to build an olefins plant and expand polyolefin units at Map Ta Phut, Thailand. The olefins plant will have combined capacity for 1.7 million m.t./year and the polyolefin expansions will add 400,000 m.t./year of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and 400,000 m.t./year of polypropylene (PP). The project will increase SCG Chemicals’ capacity at Map Ta Phut to 2.9 million m.t./year of olefins; 960,000 m.t./year of HDPE; and 720,000 m.t./year of PP. SCG Chemicals...
