DIC to build US plant

DIC (Tokyo) says it will invest $10 million to build a new extraction plant for its Linablue natural blue food-coloring. The new facility will be located at the site of Earthrise Nutritionals (Irvine, CA), a wholly owned subsidiary of DIC. Earthrise is a Spirulina production and sales company with a yield of about 500 m.t./year. Spirulina is a nutrient-rich blue-green algae that grows naturally in lakes in Africa, Central America, and South America, DIC says.
