Celanese reported fourth-quarter 2006 net earnings down 56%, to $77 million, due in part to a higher tax expense. Net sales increased 8%, to $1.66 billion, driven by improved pricing on continued strong demand, increased volumes in specialty businesses, and positive currency impacts, the company says. Operating profits grew 9.7%, to $185 million, as improved margins offset higher selling and administrative expenses, the company says.
