Brazil’s chemical output drops 7% in first five months

Brazil’s chemical production declined 7.1% year-on-year (YOY) over January–May despite improved monthly production volumes and domestic sales in the final month, according to preliminary figures released by Abiquim (São Paulo), the country’s chemical industry association. The drop is partly due to a poor performance between February and April. A 9.5% production increase in May effectively offset an 8.5% decrease in production in April. Average capacity utilization in Brazil was 78% in May, 6 percentage points below the same month last year, Abiquim says...
