Chemical Week Magazine :: Newsbriefs Borealis Offers to Acquire Fertilizer Firm PEC-Rhin6:04 AM MST | December 9, 2011 Borealis says it has made an offer to GPN, a subsidiary of Total Petrochemicals, to buy PEC-Rhin (Ottmarsheim, France). PEC-Rhin, a joint venture equally owned by GPN and BASF, produces nitrogen fertilizers, ammonia, and nitric acid at its Ottmarsheim manufacturing site and employs 180 people. Borealis is a major producer of polyolefins and base chemicals, and it is a major player in fertilizer markets in Central Europe. Borealis has capacity to produce 1.6 million m.t./year of fertilizers, all of which is at the company’s Linz, Austria complex. GPN recently...
