BP Forecasts Reach Costs of $60 Million; BASF Predicts €500 Million

BP says it is expecting the European Union’s (EU) Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach) program to cost the company at least $60 million. BP says it has nearly 1,000 separate chemical substances that must be registered under Reach, leading to a charge of about $60,000 for each substance, once preparation, pre-registration and registration costs are taken into account.
