BASF to Close U.K. Adiponitrile Plant

BASF says it will close an adiponitrile (ADN) plant at Seal Sands, U.K. at an unspecified date after 2008 with the loss of about 30 jobs, 15% of the site’s workforce. BASF uses ADN as a raw material to produce hexamethylenediamine (HMD) at Seal Sands. The company says it will begin to purchase ADN from Invista for consumption at Seal Sands, from the beginning of 2009.
