Arkema confirms phthalate site closure in France

Arkema has confirmed plans to close its phthalate plasticizers manufacturing complex at Chauny, France (CW, Sept. 16/23, p. 6). The company says it has presented a plan to its central works council to cease production at the Chauny site in March 2014. The closure of the complex will result in the loss of 71 jobs. The Chauny site, part of Arkemaâ€™s acrylic monomers business unit, produces phthalic anhydride, dioctyl phthalate (DOP), and fumaric acid, which are used primarily in the manufacture of polyester resins and alkyd resins for paints and in the plasticized...
