Amvac biopesticide registered by EPA

American Vanguard (Amvac; Newport Beach, CA) says it has received EPA registration for its naturally occurring SmartBlock potato sprout inhibitor and will begin marketing immediately. The company says SmartBlockâ€”already FDA-approved as a food additiveâ€”is classified as a biopesticide by the EPA. The molecule offers â€śsafe, comprehensive long-term storage controlâ€ť and can be applied using existing equipment, Amvac adds. The technology was discovered by researchers at Washington State University and has been developed and tested by Amvac for over seven years...
