Tosoh to expand capacity of Nanyo VCM plant by 50%

Tosoh plans to increase capacity at its No. 3 vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) unit at Nanyo, Japan, by 50%, to 600,000 m.t./year, at a cost of ¥5 billion ($63 million). The company said earlier that it was considering the move, following a fire in November 2011 that severely damaged the site’s No. 2 VCM plant, designed to produce 550,000 m.t/year. That unit has been offline since the fire. Tosoh’s No. 1 VCM plant, designed to produce 250,000 m.t./year, continues to operate.
