Sabic, Shell Chemicals cancel POSM, polyol plans

Sabic and Shell Chemicals have called off plans to build a propylene oxide–styrene monomer (POSM) and polyols complex in Saudi Arabia. Graham van’t Hoff, executive v.p. at Shell Chemicals, said in an interview at ACC’s annual meeting earlier this month that Sabic has decided to halt POSM and polyols development. Both companies continue to evaluate other possible expansion opportunities in Saudi Arabia, he adds. “We are working together on an alternative scope [to the project],” van’t Hoff says.
