Repsol to build metallocene PE plant at Tarragona

Repsol has announced plans to build a polyethylene (PE) plant at the company’s Tarragona, Spain petrochemical complex. The unit will use Chevron Phillips Chemical’s (CP Chem) metallocene technology to produce PE. Repsol, which already uses CP Chem’s technology to produce high-density PE (HDPE), will be the first licensee of CP Chem’s metallocene process. The company plans to complete the new plant in the fourth quarter of 2015. The Tarragona complex currently has capacity to produce 150,000 m.t./year of HDPE and 213,000 m.t./year of low-density PE.
