Evonik Forms L-Lysine Manufacturing Joint Venture in Russia

Evonik Industries has established a joint venture with RusBiotech International (Moscow), to produce the amino acid L-lysine in Russia using a biotechnological process. The jv, Russkie Biotechnologii, will be based at Volgodonsk and cater to the Russian market. L-lysine is an amino acid used in animal feed. Evonik markets the product under the Biolys brand. The jv will build a plant that consumes wheat grown in the Rostov region. Total investment in the jv will be about €150 million ($203 million), and the plant is expected to be online in 2014 and convert...
