Chemical Week Magazine :: New Construction Projects Assam Cracker’s Costs Escalate; Completion Is Delayed8:11 AM MST | November 26, 2011 The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (New Delhi), headed by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has approved a revised cost estimate for a previously announced gas cracker project in the state of Assam, India. Costs have risen by 63%, to Rs89.2 billion ($1.75 billion) since the cabinet approved the project in April 2006. The planned cracker, which will use local feedstock, is well below world scale. The project has been hindered by cost overruns due to delays, increases in infrastructural requirements and construction costs, labour unrest, prolonged...
