Assam Cracker’s Costs Escalate; Completion Is Delayed

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (New Delhi), headed by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has approved a revised cost estimate for a previously announced gas cracker project in the state of Assam, India. Costs have risen by 63%, to Rs89.2 billion ($1.75 billion) since the cabinet approved the project in April 2006. The planned cracker, which will use local feedstock, is well below world scale.
