Asahi Glass to supply novel refrigerant to Honeywell, will build plant

Asahi Glass has agreed to supply Honeywell with hydrofluoroolefin (HFO)-1234yf, a car air-conditioning refrigerant that has significantly lower environmental impact than other car refrigerants. Asahi Glass plans to build a plant using proprietary technology at its Chiba, Japan, complex and start supplying the new refrigerant from about the middle of 2015. Honeywell announced plans recently to invest $300 million to build an HFO-1234yf plant at the company’s Geismar, LA, complex.
