The indicator is now 15% above its summer 2009 low. Output in the chemical industry has also recovered. Measured on a fourth-quarter to fourth-quarter basis, chemical production declined 10.4% in 2008, rose 3.9% in 2009, and rose an additional 2% in 2010. In fourth-quarter 2010, chemical output rose at an annualized rate of 6.1%. The majority of the indicator’s components were positive for the latest calculation. The biggest gain was in the average...
