The leading indicator for the chemical industry rose 1.9% in January, its sixth consecutive monthly advance. The indicator is now 15% above its summer 2009 low. Output in the chemical industry has also recovered. Measured on a fourth-quarter to fourth-quarter basis, chemical production declined 10.4% in 2008, rose 3.9% in 2009, and rose an additional 2% in 2010.
