Industrial production in the chemical process industries fell 0.5% in December 2006, and was down an annualized 5.3% for the fourth quarter of last year. Within the chemical-using sector, output was down in building materials, petroleum refining, paper, and rubber and plastics. Only nonferrous metals exhibited rising production levels.
