A majority of the index components fared poorly in the latest calculation, including the average chemical industry stock price, which fell sharply last month after rising for three months. Production levels in the chemical process industries dropped 1% in June due to falling output of building materials, nonferrous metals, petroleum refining, and rubber and plastics products.
