Chemical Week Magazine :: Departments :: Leading Indicators Indicator Continues Upward7:13 AM MDT | August 6, 2007 | Arnold Pearlman The leading indicator for the chemical industry rose in May for the second consecutive month, bringing it to its highest point since September 2006. The indicator is still about 3% below the peak it reached in March 2006, however. Chemical output has advanced in recent months, but the gains have been relatively sluggish and production still remains about 1% below its previous high, analysts say. Production has been weakest in building materials, followed by paper and petroleum refining. Rubber and plastics and nonferrous metals have not experienced any...
