Indicator Bounces Back

The leading indicator for the chemical industry rebounded in February, nearly gaining what had been lost in the January reading. Chemical industry output has grown 6% over the past 12 months compared with 2% for the entire manufacturing sector. There have been monthly fluctuations, however. In February, for example, output dropped 0.7%. The components of the leading indicator posted mixed results for the most recent calculation. Industrial production in the chemical process industries, an important segment of demand for chemicals, fell 0.4%. Production declined...
