The big story last week in petchem markets was the surprise collapse of global spot methanol prices. European material tumbled by €100/m.t., and U.S. bids plunged below $1.00/gal. Market watchers say the declines are due to swelling inventories, as well as a seasonal reduction in demand. Sellers have so far refused to offer anything lower than 102 cts/gal, however, sources say.
