Falling crude oil prices led to lower feedstocks, with ethane down 2 cts/gal, propane was lower by 4 cts/gal, and both naphtha and butane lost a nickel. In northwest Europe, naphtha was also reported lower by $20/m.t. Cheaper feeds lifted olefins producers as they reported generally higher spot prices. Market watchers say that firm polymer markets and signs of recovery in broader economies supported producers’ efforts to rebuild margins.
