Mideast to Dominate Trade

The Mideast is transforming itself from a net importer of polypropylene (PP) into a major exporter, and the region will eventually dominate global trade in the product, industry sources say. Imports have been declining for several years, and in 2007 the region is expected to have, for the first time, a net trade surplus in PP. The Mideast, including Turkey, had a trade deficit of 332,000 m.t. of PP in 2006, 26% less than in the year before, and this year the region is expected to have a 165,000-m.t. net surplus, Nexant Chem Systems (Houston) says.
