M&A: Cash in the Balance

Recovery in merger and acquisition (M&A) activity continues, but deals are taking longer to complete than prior to the recession and conflicts over valuation persist, experts say. In the first three quarters of 2010, $32 billion in M&A deals were completed, according to Young & Partners (Y&P). The corresponding figure for all of 2009 was $25 billion. The market “is much healthier than last year, but the pace hasn’t changed since the summer,” says Peter Young, president of Y&P. “It improved mostly earlier this year and activity has been steady since.”...
