Fertilizer Makers Rise in Ranks

Fertilizer producers had a banner year in 2008. Strong global demand and high selling prices drove sales and profits up. As a result, fertilizer companies moved well ahead of their 2007 positions in this year’s Billion-Dollar Club. Doyle: Re-emergence of demand. Wilson: Signs of improving markets. Haslestad: Drop in fertilizer prices. Agrium and PotashCorp reported the biggest gains in the table. Agrium shot up 30 spots to number 33 because of a 200% rise in net income, to $1.3 billion, on sales up 90%, to $10 billion. Potash jumped 25 slots, to number 39...
