Chemical Week Magazine :: Cover Story Chlor-Alkali: Uncertainty Reigns7:51 AM MST | January 8, 2010 | Lindsey Bewley Demand will be the driver for recovery in the chlor-alkali industry this year after volatile prices in 2009, market players say. “The outlook for this year hinges on caustic soda demand levels,” says an industry insider. “If it strengthens, then we are likely to see a rebound. If it decreases, then we may be in trouble.” Caustic soda spot prices plummeted last year, falling from over $800/ton fob in January to low of about $75/ton fob in August.
