China Cracks Down on Food and Drug Safety

The Chinese government announced on August 23 that the police have resolved 185,000 criminal cases in the past year as part of a crackdown on substandard food and drugs. A total of 147,000 underground facilities, which had manufactured and traded inferior food and drugs, have been shut since August 2011, the government says.
