China Cracks Down on Food and Drug Safety

The Chinese government announced on August 23 that the police have resolved 185,000 criminal cases in the past year as part of a crackdown on substandard food and drugs. A total of 147,000 underground facilities, which had manufactured and traded inferior food and drugs, have been shut since August 2011, the government says. The government says that the investigations will continue.
