Chemical sales are expected to fall by 1% and volumes by 2% this year amid a tough Canadian marketplace impacted by the high Canada-U.S. exchange rate, tight labor conditions, and increased energy and raw material costs, says the Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association (CCPA; Ottawa). “Sales volume has dropped by 7% since it reached a peak in 2004, and this trend is expected to continue as some older plants are shut down and not replaced with new investments, particularly in central Canada,” CCPA says.
