Canada: Shale impact lags for now but will arrive

Although it may sound strange in this era of the North American shale gale, Canada’s ethylene producers are short on feedstock. Shale has dramatically reduced natural gas prices throughout North America, but the impacts have been different for the United States and Canada. Whereas US producers are running crackers full-out and racing to erect new ones, Canadian producers are scrounging every nook and cranny for loose scraps of ethane. A decline in natural gas exports from Alberta has crimped supplies of natural gas liquids (NGLs), but the situation is temporary, say industry watchers....
