Chemical sector M&A activity slipped in 2012 as economic uncertainty and a scarcity of available quality assets dragged down volumes despite favorable market conditions. Strong conditions remain, however, and activity should rise in 2013. The year 2012 was an unusual one for the chemicals M&A market since low CEO confidence and a lack of quality assets for sale undermined a market awash in cash and easy financing.
