The many tasks of Hercules (Wilmginton, DE) have challenged the company earlier this decade. The costly acquisition of BetzDearborn in the late 1990s saddled it with an onerous debt load, and separate issues related to asbestos, environmental, pension, and tax liabilities further strained its balance sheet and provided further distractions.
