M&A in 2011: A Tale of Two Halves

Last year was, in the aggregate, a strong year for chemicals M&A, but uncertainty from the European debt crisis and weaker demand slowed the market in the second half. The equity value of disclosed deals valued at more than $25 million totaled $82 billion in 2011, surpassing 2007’s previous record by $26 billion, according to figures provided by investment bank Young & Partners (Y&P; New York).
