2007 Global Activity in Industry Off to a Solid Start

Global activity in the chemical industry has been steady so far in 2007, with January growth at 0.5%, according to ACC’s Global Chemical Industry Production Index. The uptick follows some easing in fourth -quarter 2006 due to a global “soft patch” in manufacturing, which resulted in excess inventory among downstream end-use customer industries and a slowing of orders, says Kevin Swift, ACC chief economist and managing director/economics and statistics.
