Valero plans 1.6-million m.t. methanol plant at St. Charles

Valero, the largest independent refiner in the United States, plans to expand its position in the petrochemical market with the installation of a 1.6-million m.t./year methanol plant at its 270,000-bbl/day refinery at St. Charles Parish, LA. The project is still in the study phase, says a company spokesman, but if approved, it could be up and running by late 2015 or early 2016.
