Texas Plant Leak Under Investigation

A release of ethylenediamine at Nalco’s specialty chemical plant at Sugar Land, TX on January 8 sent three employees to the hospital and prompted the plant’s closure for about three hours, Nalco says. Approximately 14 other employees also received medical attention as a precaution, says John Wantuch, plant manager at Sugar Land. Media reports say a plume of white smoke was released into the air and that local residents were ordered to “shelter-in-place” for about 45 minutes.
