Strong Recovery Drives Rise in Ethylene Growth Forecast

Ethylene demand growth will exceed previous forecasts, which should lessen the impact of new Chinese and Mideast capacities expected to swamp the world market from 2010 onward, according to a new report from SRI Consulting (SRIC; Menlo Park, CA). World demand for all petrochemical products increased during the fourth quarter of 2009 and through the second quarter of 2010 at a faster rate than the original forecast due to a surge in economic growth combined with some inventory rebuilding in the supply chains, SRIC says.
