Specialty earnings mixed on varying market demand

Specialty earnings were mixed: Ecolab and FMC report year-on-year (YOY) increases due to strength in the energy and agricultural end markets, respectively, while Rockwood was hit by weak titanium dioxide (TiO2) results and Chemtura’s bromine and organometallics business continued to suffer from soft electronics demand. Most companies, however, managed to beat Wall Street expectations—albeit lowered expectations, in some cases. Ecolab reports second-quarter net income up 16% YOY, while sales rose 13% (table).
