Platform acquires MacDermid for $1.8 billion, plans more deals

Platform Acquisition Holdings has agreed to acquire specialty chemical maker MacDermid (Denver) for $1.8 billion. Platform, a blank-check firm formed by Jarden executive chairman Martin Franklin, raised $900 million in an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) in May with the goal of acquiring a target company in an unspecified sector. Platform says that MacDermid is its initial investment and provides a base to build a large specialty chemicals franchise. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of October.
