Pioneer to Expand Louisiana Chlor-Alkali Plant

Pioneer says it will spend $142 million to expand its chlor-alkali plant at St. Gabriel, LA by 25%, and convert the plant from mercury-cell technology to membrane-cell technology. The expansion will raise chlor-alkali capacity at St. Gabriel to 246,000 electrochemical units (ECU), a combination of chlorine and caustic soda units, by the fourth quarter of 2008.
