Chemical Week Magazine :: Business & Finance :: United States/Americas Pioneer to Expand Louisiana Chlor-Alkali Plant9:58 AM MDT | July 27, 2007 | Peck Hwee Sim Pioneer says it will spend $142 million to expand its chlor-alkali plant at St. Gabriel, LA by 25%, and convert the plant from mercury-cell technology to membrane-cell technology. The expansion will raise chlor-alkali capacity at St. Gabriel to 246,000 electrochemical units (ECU), a combination of chlorine and caustic soda units, by the fourth quarter of 2008. Pioneer says the expansion is in response to demand from nearby industrial customers for chlorine delivered via pipeline at a competitive price.
