Oil firms post stronger petrochemical earnings

Chemical segment earnings for US oil makers and refiners were up across the board in the third quarter. Strength in petrochemical markets, particularly in the United States, helped several companies. ExxonMobil reports third-quarter earnings for its chemical segment of $1.03 billion, up 30% year-on-year (YOY), on higher commodity margins. In the United States, chemical earnings increased 20% YOY, to $680 million, and volumes grew 5%, to 2.47 million m.t. Chemical earnings elsewhere increased 53%, to $345 million, while volumes increased 5%, to 3.78 million m.t...
