North American drought dampens fertilizer companies’ earnings, sales

Fertilizer companies—including Agrium, CF Industries, Yara International, Intrepid Potash, and Rentech Nitrogen—reported mixed results for the third quarter, with some seeing negative impacts from the drought in the United States over the summer and the early spring season. Crop nutrient sales and crop protection sales fell for Agrium because of dry conditions impacting fertilizer applications in certain regions.
