EPA begins risk assessment of flame retardants under TSCA

EPA announced on 27 March that it will begin health and environmental risk assessments of 23 commonly used chemicals, with a focus on flame retardants, as a part of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Work Plan. The plan was originally released in March 2012 and included a total of 83 chemicals to be assessed over the next few years. EPA has also outlined the detailed plans for the 2013 assessments with its process for identifying the chemicals and general assesment approach, the agency says.
