DuPont to Phase-out PFOA by 2015

Dupont says it will phase-out all production and use of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)—a processing aide for fluoropolymers—by 2015. The company says the commitment reflects progress it has made over the past year in finding a suitable alternative to PFOA, which just a year ago seemed unattainable. Last year, Dupont and other firms evaluated more than 100 alternatives to PFOA and found none suitable to replace the chemical as a processing agent, DuPont says.
